I liked the Semi-Finals as the Top 24. I think splitting it up into groups, and then a wildcard would be too much.

I also don't like the Top 36 format because depending on the talent (and the looks because of the people who believe the show is a popularity and good-looks contest), one gender could dominate against the other. i.e., male < female, male > female It could end up as 10 women and 2 men for all we know!

Not to mention that some talented singers miss out on the top 12 the first time around because they happen to be in a competitive group, while other mediocre ones slide through to the top 12 because they were placed in a group that was comprised of mostly terrible singers. That was the main reason why Clay and Jennifer needed the wildcard in their respective seasons. In Clay's case, he got the bad luck to be placed in the same group as Ruben and Kim Locke, and in Jennifer's case, Diana and Fantasia were in the same group as she was. On the flip side of the coin, you have people like Matt Rogers who was a mediocre singer, but got lucky enough to be placed in a group where 5 out of the remaining 7 contestants were worse than he was.

NYChica, you are soooo right!  Also, some contestants make the TOP 12 early and then we don't see them for awhile.  TPTB have already made the plans, so they aren't about to change it.  The TOP 24 format was really good!

I believe that last year there would have been 7 guys and 5 girls that would have been in the TOP 12.  This may happen this year.

What the World needs now is love, sweet love.  No, not just for some, but for everyone.

The jury's out on the others. I'm not gaga over the idea of going back to the old semifinals system of having groups of different (mostly disposible) contestants perform each week and voting a few through every week instead of voting a few off.

In the end, it's all pretty much the same thing.

Yeah it really is!

Three weeks of auditions are plenty. And I like the Wildcard. Let's see how it plays out.

I'm (mostly) looking forward to the changes. I wasn't watching AI when it originally had the wild card and the 36 semi-finalists, so that should be interesting to see how that plays out. But, I'm still not sure that I'm going to like the newest judge.

I am not looking forward to the new judge. I mean she seems nice but that means the judges favorites will make it on the show not the people who are good

Wait a minute, I'm having trouble understanding your post, could you explain what you mean?

"We recognize the present is half as pleasant as our nostalgia for the past that we've resented, recast and reinvented, until it's how we meant it"

I like the top 35 and wild card because my favorites always seem to get left out.

I still think that David Cook is the Epitome of Chris Daughtery.

I am not sure what you mean by that..

I hope this year everyone votes with passion and when they're watching the final 12 especially, Close your eyes and listen. Looks aren't everything by anymeans, this is "American Idol" you have to be unique. Copy cats can be made everyday. Not that David Cook isn't dag um Good! But please close your eyes and listen while they're singing....

uhm... I am still not sure what it is you are trying to say... I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion or anything.. but it sounds as if you are trying to say something along the lines that Cook should not have won because he is too much like Daughtry (copy cat???) and didn't sound the best...

If I got that wrong.. sorry about that, but if I got it right then with all due respect, you are out of your cotton picking mind.. LOL
