YES! ROF was the hottest, coolest, most unique thing I'd ever seen on AI! :) And WLL was equally stunning! Adam in dress up is a beautiful thing. Adam period is a beautiful thing. Tho' his aria vocals on ROF still chill me to my core. (I love, love, love, LOVE his upper register utterly.... the higher the better.. the higher.. the hotter!!!!!) Any of his high glory notes sends swirling chills down my spine .. I love his mid/lower register as well but those powerfully held long long Looooooonnnnngggggggg notes.. Oh.My.Freaking.GODS! My MetalHead days are showing.. you think? :) *Swoons and Thuds*

I just couldn't help myself and had to devote a thread to the most amazing performance of American Idol's eight seasons.
Of all Adam's performances, this is the one that stands out to me as legendary. The first time I saw it, I was shocked. I really didn't know what to think. I just stared at the television screen when it was over, thinking to myself that I did not just see someone do that on American Idol, the cheesiest and most white-bread family show there is. I literally had chills.
Then of course I did what many others did...I replayed it....over and over and over again. I couldn't stop watching, becoming more mesmerized with every viewing. It was official. My Adam obsession had begun.
The vocals were insanely perfect, haunting even. The outfit was, in one word, sexy. The body language was perfectly and seductive. The arrangement was daring. There was no one else in my mind who could have pulled this off in the exact way Adam did. This performance completely set him apart from the rest of the pack.
The best part of all was how divided the country was on this performance. There were those like me who thought it was the most miraculous 90 seconds they'd ever witnessed. Then there were those who thought it was pitiful, insulting, 'ear piercing', disastrous, and about 1000 more negative descriptors you can think of. To get such strong emotions on complete opposite ends of the spectrum is something only true artists in this day-of-age can do. I think about that now. The reaction. The controversy. The speculation. The adoration.
Adam will be iconic indeed.
Great post! I agree, THAT performance did it, and it did have to sink in, two reasons.. one.. Did they really see the coolest thing ever... two... shock! Such a great vocal... and he was "floooowing" man what a moment. I love all his music, but I really prefer his live stuff... a lot more... even the "Crawl thru fire" and other stuff...
Glambert 1871, yo. You are who you are!

I agree 100%!!!! The minute he finished my friend called and asked what I thought and I said it was the best performance in the history of Idol. I was mezmorized, amazed, and fell in mad love with Adam during those 2 minutes. The funny thing is, I just heard the Cash version a couple days ago for the first time post-Adam. And I was like wwwwhhhhaaaaaaa iz thiz?? No offense to the man, but Adam's version is just so sensual and passionate it just seems to fit the lyrics better.

I don't know how you cannot love that performance. It was so sexy, OMG! Besides, I really think Johhny Cash would have loved it. He was the original rebel after all.

TOTALLY!!!! I had never heard the original until post-Adam as well, and seriously thought for a second I had the wrong song. It's apparently a country classic and I respect that, but COME ON, Adam's version really brought those lyrics to life. Johnny Cash is a legend, but in my opinion the way the original of the song goes, if you don't listen carefully, you can't tell if he's singing about passionate desire or margaritas on the beach after a long day at the office.

Ring of Fire was the first time I've ever been totally mesmerized by an AI performance and I think that moment was the defining moment for Adam and his specialness. I called my sister at the same time she was trying to call me and all we could talk about was how supernatural it felt and how we were all weirded out feeling. It was almost like being halfway drunk or dopey or something strange going on. Amazing!!!

For me it was Whole Lotta Love. I still can't believe they slipped those adult lyrics past the PG-13 censors! The performance was way past what I ever expected to see on cheesy AI.
what did he say?? i didnt hear the pg-13 stuff.
The part where he sings "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love"
ohh...i thought of a way that could be bad.,..but i never knew it was. ohh.... i feel kinda dumb now. ________________________________________________________________________________ glambert #00~ <3 [[GeEkY gLaMbErT!!]] LiVe..LaUgH..LoVe!! aussie posse girr & u kno it(: "I'm not skerred" -Adam Lambert! I loved his version of ring of fire but most of all I loved the way he looked immediately after he finished the song, looking at the crowd with that gorgeous face waiting to see what the judges thought. It accidentally got deleted from my dvr and I've been upset since.

Whole Lotta Love is my All TIme Favorite!!! I also could not believe the Lyrics weren't made to be tweeked... It was my favorite week on Idol (And Slow Ride) Now, when I first heard ROF... I was not sure! But, as we all got to Know and Love Adam...it is almost a classic! I really LOVE the song, TOO!!!
