American Idol could have done the classy and integrity-based thing and added Alexis Grace to the tour...
This would have come with several benefits and minimal if any cons... but they chose not to... thus they lost credibility and they showed that the lack the class and integrity to make up for their costly actions.... the PROS heavily outweighed the cons...
First i will show how AI really made a very irrational choice to NOT add Alexis to the tour ... then i will have some summary points from my other blog posts that elaborate on some of things i tough on in the PRO/Con analysis:
PROS
1. balancing the guy:girl ratio,
2. it would be COMPASSIONATE gesture to add someone to the tour who just barely (and shockingly) failed to make it to the top ten. This would be a PR effort that could boost ratings in future shows and tours; who doesn't like a compassionate corporation (is that an oxy-moron? lol)
3. Potentially making a better show: adding talented singers to a show.... can, if anything, make it better no? It certainly wouldn't make it WORSE. Perhaps increased ticket sales may offset the increased cost they'd have to fork out....
4.Integrity and class: if a contestant got the shaft and they deserved to go longer.... "making it up to them" by giving them a tour spot is a classy and integrity-based thing to do.... this, if anything, could also come with PR benefits and could help their ratings moving forward. AI did make some mistakes in the way they worded their advice to Alexis and this DID cost her some fans and was a potential necessary cause of her outsting... by giving her a spot on the tour they show that they possess the class and integrity to make up for mistakes... that they treat their employees (contestants) with respect.
5.Credibility: AI is the show that gives deserving contestants a shot to shine on the big stage and develop a large and dedicated fanbase to launch their careers off of. This is what has made them so popular (and rich). They are not the show that singles out deserving contestants and mistakenly attach a stigma to their characters that cost them some fans, possibly got them eliminated, and still lingers on even post-idol and then, in addition to all that, making blatantly false claims that reaps away the credit they had earned during their AI run.. All of this is the polar opposite of what has made AI so popular; it is not the AI the people have fallen in love with. Ultimately, if anything, It can only help ratings and PR efforts (NOT hurt them) to behave in a manner that coincides with AI’s purpose and identity (behave in a manner that made them so popular in the first place)... and of course, what makes AI look more favorably/popular can only help to make the AI tour more popular...
Cons:
Cost. But cost isskittles to them... In addition these costs could very well be offset the the PR benefits, potential ratings benefits, potential increased ticket sales they would receive from adding her to the tour... heck they may even MAKE A PROFIT... not to mention that it would be a compassionate gesture... we are human afterall
So for AI... they could choose NOT adding her to tour.... this MAY mean they lose a minimal and insignificant amount of money that means nothing to them in the long run... while adding Alexis to the tour would mean a HUGE deal to Alexis. In addition, adding her WILL come with PR benefits (display compassion, integrity, and credibility... this could collectively also help ratings moving forward), it WILL make things more interesting (possibly helping ratings), it will increase ticket sales because it would attract those who aren't going to the tour because Alexis isnt there. Collectively, all of the above factors may even have a lasting effect and lead to increased tour ticket sales NEXT year; if the PR and ratings benefits are significant enough, then more viewers, more fans, more tour tickets), it will add another talented signer to the tour that would make it better, it would balance the guy:girl ratio... in short the potential benefits FAR outweigh the potential consequences. So AI has more to gain by adding her than not. The only losses they can incur are meaningless to them, while the benefits are meaningful, not only for them (to the point where they may see profits) but also to Alexis herself and her fans.
In the end they choose not to... so they wasted a golden opportunity to gain a series of benefits... they lost some credibility by squandering what could have been a longer (and deserved) AI run for Alexis... and they behaved without class and integrity by refusing to make up for their costly actions. And the person who has to suffer most is now Alexis... without the tour, her career is going to be much more of an uphill battle... getting that record deal is going to be tough... she didnt get enough exposure to develop that solid fan base and that is unfortunate. I will be following her career and i sincerely hope she gets a break and someone picks her up.... but it looks grim (how many idols who don't make the tour actually achieve post-idol sucess)... and it pains me to see decent, and deserving people denied from doing something that makes them happy and fullfilled... something that they're good at at ... something that makes them feel confident etc. Such a shame
Some of the facts and key points from my other blog posts that are relevant to the above points:
1.AI is a popularity contest and people vote for who they LIKE. This is based on PERSONALITY, talent and looks among other things. If a contestant has a perceived personality flaw then people may not like them as much as others who do NOT have that flaw and thus they be more inclined to vote for others instead. The judges committed actions that cost Alexis some fans... their poorly-phrased advice attached a stigma to her character, that turned people off, cost her some fans and this was thus a possible necessary cause of her elimination. This stigma still lingers on and still turns some people off (thus still hinders the growth of her fan-base).some proof showing that the judges mistakes cost Alexis some popularity and attached a stigma to her character
They told her to "dirty it up"... that's vague at best. what does it mean? dirty? slutty? confident? SHE interpreted in a way that DID make her better (she tried to be more confident, edgy and sassy) BUT because of these poorly worded phrases.... some people thought she was literally trying to be a dirty girl and this DID cost her some fans(as i've proven) because it made them think she was "shallow, fake, slutty, not staying true to herself etc". It would have been far more rational to simply outline their advice in literal terms (assuming they were actually being figurative and not deliberatly trying to make her a "dirty girl") and tell her to be "more confident, edgy, sassy" ... you know... like they did with the OTHER contestants. This way... she would be free to make the improvements she did without having it hurt her at the same time. Dispelling the myths and stigmas surrounding Alexis Grace's character
2. On the top 10 show (after Alexis had already been elimnated) Ryan asked Kara what she thought of Alexis' shocking elimination and Kara made the blatantly false claim that Alexis had picked BAD songs for the past FEW weeks. Now clearly this is false since the only arguably bad song choice was Jolene (the others were great and the judges even said that in previous weeks). So why did she say this? a slip of the tongue? possibly but highly unlikely; I don't how she could mistakenly say "past few weeks" instead of "last week" especially given how she had praised Alexis in the previous weeks AND that she paused and took her time when making her comment. It appeared as though Kara was attempting to justify not saving Alexis by making it seem like she was worse than she actually was, and IF this was the case, then it lacks class and integrity. In either case the result is the same: Kara's false comments reaped away virtually all of the credit Alexis had EARNED throughout her AI run.
----------------------------
Whether or not this stigma led to her elimination is not the focus of this thread...although because it WAS working against her (people were turned off) it was a contributing factor... and a POTENTIAL necessary cause of her elimination... not the ONLY necessary cause, (although i prove that it was the LIKELY necessary cause of her elimination here: Why that judge-induced stigma was the most likely cause of her early and unjust elimination
Sometimes people like to bring up the argument “she shouldn’t be added because the “rule” is that only the top ten go on tour”.
That’s not a valid argument because the “rules” are not set in stone on AI. AI will break (and have broken) “rules” if they think there are good enough reasons to do so. For example they broke the “rule” that only the top 12 go on the big stage by making it a top 13. By adding the save, they broke the “rule” that once you’re eliminated post-top 12, then it’s the end of the road. In their minds there were good enough reasons to “break” previous standards and thus they did it.
In this blog post I will present why the pros of adding Alexis to the tour overwhelmingly outweigh the cons, so therefore they should “bend” the previous “rule” and include her in the tour. It would be the right and rational thing to do. We should NOT prevent ourselves from doing the right and rational thing just because of some old standards. This is why even “rules” in society are often modified when there are good enough reasons.
I'm going to take a conservative approach here show that even if we don't say that the judge-induced stigma on Alexis' character was the most likely cause of her elimination, American Idol STILL should add her to the tour; it would the credible, integrity-based, and classy thing to do AND it would help AI's PR and ratings. (btw... it WAS the most likely cause and I proved that in the blog post called: why AI should add ALEXIS GRACE to the tour; why she has been treated more unfairly than anyone else in AI history. Scroll to the section called Why that judge-induced stigma was the most likely cause of her early and unjust elimination... but for the purposes of this post let's assume we "don't know")
Now my other blog posts cover the points about the judges' mistakes that ultimately attached a stigma to Alexis' character, but i will summarize briefly in this post. Their choice to "advise" Alexis to "dirty it up" and repeat and overemphasize this advice on national TV, attached a stigma to her character that cost her some fans and STILL lingers on today (thus still hindering the growth of her post-idol fanbase). This essentially handicapped her and put her in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation: if she refrained from trying to more confident, edgy and sassy, she would be hindering her personal growth as an artist and she would be preventing herself from improving her stage presence and star quality (while her fellow competitors were free make such improvements); if she did try to be come out of her shell, be confident, sassy or make any other changes, it may be (and was) (due to the judges repeating and overemphasizing their "advice" to "dirty it up" on national TV) misinterpreted in manner that would reflect negatively on her personality. (if you're still thinking oh but "she made the choice so it's her fault then read Dispelling the myths and stigmas surrounding Alexis Grace's character
Now since this stigma was a factor that was turning people off of her (and only she had to deal with this judge-induced, lingering stigma) we can conclude that it was, at the very least, a contributing factor to her elimination; it was, at the very least, a potential cause of her elimination
Then they made blatant false statements that reaped away Alexis' earned credit To make matters worse, on the top 10 show (after Alexis had already been eliminated) Ryan asked Kara what she thought of Alexis' shocking elimination and Kara made the blatantly false claim that Alexis had picked BAD songs for the past FEW weeks. It appeared as though Kara was attempting to justify not saving Alexis by making it seem like she was worse than she actually was, and this lacks class and integrity. In either case the result is the same: Kara's comments reaped away virtually all of the credit Alexis had EARNED throughout her AI run.
-------------------
Here we have a case where the judges' made mistakes that attached a stigma to Alexis’ character, cost her some fans, still lingers on (thus still hindering the growth of her popularity after idol), and was, at the very least, a possible necessary cause of her elimination (and definitely a contributing factor). In addition their blatantly false claims (which if not a mistake, was a deliberate action (something far worse)) reaped away the credit that Alexis had earned. Should they make up for these costly actions and decisions or not? They could do it by adding her to the tour… so should they? Should they take this golden opportunity to behave with some integrity, class and credibility? The answer is YES:
PROS/CONS of adding AG to the tour Pros: Alexis deserved a better fate on AI and giving her a spot on the tour would give back some of the earned credit they reaped away from her with their blatantly false comments on the top 10 show; it will give back some of the popularity she lost due to the judges’ "advice" (mistake) that attached a stigma to her character in the minds of voters (that lingers on even to this day), and it would give back to her the spot on the tour that was robbed from her (possibly) due to the Judge-induced stigma on her character. Ultimately it would give her a lot more exposure (exposure which she should have gotten) and it would greatly help her post-idol attempts to get a record deal (which at this point, due to the short idol run and missing the tour…is going to be quite the uphill battle).
It would allow AI to retain some of the credibility that they lost: AI is the show that gives deserving contestants a shot to shine on the big stage and develop a large and dedicated fanbase to launch their careers off of. Ultimately, It can only help ratings and PR efforts to behave in a manner that coincides with AI’s purpose and identity (behave in a manner that made them so popular in the first place)... and of course, what makes AI look more favorably/popular can only help to make the AI tour more popular. What happened to Alexis reaped away some of that credibility, but by adding her to the tour they can retain some it and this can only help ratings and PR efforts.
This would be the classy and integrity-based thing to do, it would show that American Idol does try to make up for mistakes when it harms/costs others; it would send out a very honorable message to the millions of young viewers who look up to the show: “if we make mistakes, we should admit to them and try to make up for them, especially if others have to suffer from our mistakes”. Behaving with class and integrity can only help ratings and PR efforts; it would reflect positively on AI as an institution and in turn it would help benefit the popularity of the tour as well moving forward
She, being a contender this year (and the 11th finalist) with her unique, soulful and bluesy voice, would make the tour better and she would help to balance out the heavily skewed guy:girl ratio (only 3 girls this year)
It’s very feasible: adding an 11th person to the tour (the 11th finalist) in a season where they made it a top 13 (and had other rule changes like the save) is entirely reasonable
Cons: Perhaps they’d have to make the show longer to include an 11th person (or they’d have to shorten some of the other performances). They may have to pay for food/lodging/salary for the extra person on tour. BUT this con may be made up for by the extra ticket sales they may receive due to an additional talented singer like Alexis being on tour. Not to mention that the positive PR effects stemming from the other pros may have a lasting benefit not only tickets sales this year, but on AI’s ratings and tours in the future as well.
Overall… the pros HEAVILY outweigh the cons. So there is no rational reason to NOT add her to the tour. So please, do the right thing, the rational thing, and add Alexis Grace to the idol tour.
It really breaks my heart to see a timid, humble, sweet, soft-spoken and kind person like Alexis have to deal with all sorts of misconceptions surrounding her character. There are many viewers out there that felt that Alexis was “shallow”, “commercial”, “fake”, “slutty, dirty”, “not staying true to herself” for following the judges “advice” to be “dirty” (check out this blog post:some proof showing that the judges mistakes cost Alexis some popularity and attached a stigma to her character ). Now I find this to be completely absurd and downright unfair
Firstly, even IF a contestant literally follows the advice the judges give them and it ends up costing them dearly, we STILL should put the majority (if not all) the blame on the judges themselves. We cannot blame a contestant for taking the judges’ advice, especially if they single him/her out FROM DAY ONE and repeat, emphasize and push that advice on him/her on national TV. They are professionals who have worked with the best in the biz and they should be leading these singers down paths that will HELP and not HURT them. These kids look up to the judges as mentors and you would expect the contestants to consider and take their advice, especially if they continue to repeat and emphasize it. In fact it would be even arrogant for the contestants to NOT take the judges’ repeated advice. One cannot blame the mentored for following what SHOULD be good advice for their mentors; that’s like blaming a child for doing something bad that their parents taught them to! It's the mentors themselves who are at fault for misguiding those who they are mentoring! Also keep in mind that in the early rounds the JUDGES pick who go through to the voting rounds... so if the judges' push advice on a contestant ... she may be actually sabotaging her chances of making it through if she does NOT take it!
Secondly and most importantly:
Alexis wasn’t even following the advice that some viewers THOUGHT she was.
The judges advice was vaguely and poorly worded; what does "dirty it up" mean anyway? To become slutty? (the literal meaning) To become more sassy, edgy, confident? (a figurative interpretation)? Alexis, being a smart girl, interpreted the advice figuratively so that she could extract some meaning from that terribly worded advice; thus, she attempted to become more sassy, confident, edgy, charismatic and so on (see her interviews). There is nothing wrong with trying to become the aforementioned. Virtually all AI contestants make attempts to become edgier, sassier, more confident etc (and that is expected since AI is about personal growth and star quality development); in fact, contestants NEED to go through those changes if they are to be successful, not only on AI, but post AI as well. Kris became more confident; Allison became edgier, sassier, and more confident; Danny became edgier etc. So these changes actually made her better. The problem, however, is that by choosing to use vague and poorly-worded terms like "dirty it up, be dirtier, you're a naughty girl" over and over on national TV when "advising" Alexis, they left open the possibility that people would misinterpret Alexis' very appropriate changes in a manner that would reflect negatively on her character; and alas, some thought the advice was literal (to dirty it up) and thus they thought she was "fake, shallow, slutty, not staying true to herself, commercial" etc for following what they thought the advice was.
Assuming the judges themselves were trying to be figurative, it was totally unnecessary and unwise for them to phrase their advice as "be dirty, dirty it up" and overemphasize and repeat that advice on national TV. It would have been much more rational to simply outline the advice in literal terms and tell her to be more confident, sassy, edgier, charismatic etc. This way they get the message across and don't leave room for interpretations that could sabotage Alexis' chances. This way she would be free to make the improvements she did without having it hurt her at the same time. They outlined advice literally with the other contestants (ie telling Kris to behave with more star quality and to be more confident, telling Danny to be edgier, telling Allison to believe in herself more etc)... they did not choose to single out any other contestant with potentially detrimental word-usage. It was unwise (a mistake) to do what they did... it put Alexis in a lose-lose situation... and it ended up costing her... all when it could have (and should have) been avoided.
Had it not been for the poorly worded "advice", the viewers would have simply seen Alexis' changes on idol for what they were; she was trying to be more confident, edgy, sassy and charismatic in an attempt to improve her stage presence and star potential, something that is perfectly normal, acceptable and expected on a show like AI where contestants try to improve themselves as artists/performers. Would you call someone “fake” or “shallow” for trying to be more confident or edgy? Would you question their character for trying to improve their charisma, stage presence and star quality? Surely that would be absurd; you may as well question the characters of virtually every AI contestant in historyUltimately Alexis was NOT "fake, shallow, not staying true to herself and so"... these misconceptions were a product of the judges’ terrible mistakes to use, repeat and emphasize the terms “be dirtier/dirty it up” when advising Alexis. These mistakes attached a stigma to Alexis’ character in the minds of some viewers and thus cost her some popularity and most likely the cost her the tour itself. So THEY are to blame.
So where does this leave us? Remember that AI is a popularity contest and people vote for who they like, and the factors that typically determine who they like are talent, personality and looks. If some voters feel that that contestant has a personality flaw (due to a stigma for example) then, if given the choice to vote for that contestant or others, they would typically vote for the others who do not possess those perceived character flaws. Ultimately the judge-induced stigma on Alexis’ character cost her some fans and thus it automatically must be considered as a potential necessary cause of her elimination (ie without that stigma, she may not have been eliminated); we can't simply ignore a factor that was working against her and only her. So even without contemplating on whether this stigma was the most likely cause or a necessary cause of her early elimination... you have to agree that it was, at the very least, a contributing factor, and therefore it was a potential necessary cause.
That being said, I prove that this judge induced stigma WAS the most likely cause of her elimination in this blog post:
Well firstly.. i must say that Alexis was sorely missed yesterday... she would have killed that type of music.
Next... if you read my other two blog posts you will remember that i presented an argument for why the judges mistakes to push "dirty" on Alexis most likely sabotaged her chances and cost her the tour; it attached a stigma to her character and acted as turn off... some people felt she wasn't staying true to herself.... that she was being "dirty" etc....
Well i had some time to kill and i decided to a quick search to some of the forums to pick out a couple of comments that reiterate my points.
to cut and paste from my blog
"Now considering all of the above, we should make note of the fact that people WERE actually turned off by this misconception of Alexis' changes on Idol; reading through previous posts from weeks back you'll notice several people commenting on Alexis being "shallow, slutty, dirty, selling out, like britney, lacking identity, all of it being a turn off" etc. So this is not only a theory anymore... it is a proven fact, not only by logical speculation but also by hard evidence. So this emphasis on dirty DID cause misconceptions about Alexis' character and it DID cost her some fans."....
here are some quotes from the forums a few weeks ago:
"How dare you all call Tatiana fake? Alexis is the one who changed her look, personality and interpretation in order to be better liked by the judges, she obviously doesn't even know who she is as an "artist", she does NOT deserve to make it to top 12. Go Tatiana for wild card!"
"The judges seem to be trying to make alexis something that she is not. She should go with Alex's motto, "rather lose being myself than win being someone that I'm not"
"I don't understand, why does she want to protray a dirty side to herself. Yeah I know in the music business you have to have one. But everytime I look at her, she is trying so hard to be a bad girl and she is not. Do you guys remember how she looked like and what she wore to the 1st audition. Take Megan or Allison or Lil they are not trying to be dirty, sexy or slutty. If she could just have stayed true to her self- being a nice down to earth mother then maybe I would like her a bit more. Its a turn off. Its sad to cause she can sing."
"She has a fantastic voice but she's trying to hard to fit into a mold that is just not her. And I think she's put herself in danger of being sent home."
"I totally agree with both of you. I think the "dirty" is covering up her beautiful voice"
"All true. She only says that because the judges have told her to "dirty" it up. I think she sunk her own ship when she promised to be dirty next week. Her song, I thought was fine. I will be sad if she leaves, she is one of my favorites."
"Sad because it looks like she will be going home. If by some weird twist she stays on till next week- I hope she doesn't bring her dirty side. Stay true to who you really are."
"She is accepting the ADVISE of people in the industry! She thinks they know what is good for her. She doesn't realize that they are just trying to add "spice" to the show. They've convinced her that SHE isn't good enough--as she is.
Their advise has nothing to do with insuring HER future."
"I agree. I think Kara's advice to her is wrong. I thought she was great in her first audition, and she's kinda gone downhill since then.
"I am not a fan of Alexis or country music, but I thought her performance was really good last night and the judges' criticisms inappropriate. I liked the toned-down performance and the fact that she just sang the song. I also liked the toned-down image and hair. This was the first time I actually liked her. I resented the judges' encouragement for her to get "dirty" and I was disappointed by her promise to get "dirty" next week. Too bad. I was ready to vote for her until she said that. "
"Your post is a bit long-winded but I know what you're saying.
She is a much better vocalist than Corkery, Sarver, and McIntyre. She isn't a dirty girl, but for some reason she gave into the pressure to "dirty it up". That didn't come across too well because it didn't work for her. She should have stayed true to herself, like Megan did (even if she didn't sing so great).
Having said that, I was glad she was voted off. I liked her initially, but then not so much. Did the judges' influence affect my reaction? Probably. I admit it."
Now these are just a few... and i'm sure that there are many more if i looked longer (not to mentioned posts there were perhaps deleted and so on).
As you can see the judges' decision to "dirty" her up was a bad one.. it DID turn people off.. it DID attach a stigma to her character... and it WAS the mostly likely cause of her elimination... see my other blog entiled the "why AI should add Alexis to the tour; Why she had been been treated more unfairly than anyone else in idol history"
I sincerely hope they make up for their mistakes and add Alexis to the tour. It's really not fair for someone as talented as her to miss the tour and lose alot of exposure because of the judges poor word choice/advice.... her career is going to be so much more of an uphill battle without the tour :(...
Why that judge-induced stigma was the most likely cause of her early and unjust elimination
The AI judges singled her out and targeted her heavily with "advice" to "be dirtier/dirty it up" and they repeated and overemphasized this poorly-worded advice on national TV to the point where it attached a stigma to her character. People started to see her as "fake, shallow, not staying true to herself, being slutty/dirty etc. (check out this blog post:some proof showing that the judges mistakes cost Alexis some popularity and attached a stigma to her character )
Now since this stigma was a factor that was turning people off of her (and only she had to deal with this judge-induced, lingering stigma) we can conclude that it was, at the very least, a contributing factor to her elimination; it was, at the very least, a potential cause of her elimination... but how much of an affect did it actually have?
To make matters worse, on Grand Ole' Oprey week this "dirty" misconception was very saliently emphasized, perhaps more so than any other time during her Idol run. After her performance of Jolene the judges said things like "be more dirty, you lost your edge it was sound alike" (even though this was an ignorant misrepresentation since her rendition of Jolene sounded nothing like the original). Then Ryan asks “what would you have done differently”. The rational thing to do in that spot would be to say you'd do what the judges suggest: to be dirtier. So she answered, "I'll bring back the dirty... if you bring me back, I'll dirty it up". She had never said things like that before, but was prompted to in that situation. To her it was all figurative, and she meant "I’ll be more sassy, edgy and confident ect". But due to prevailing misconceptions and all the previous emphasis the judges had placed on "dirty" it only acted to more saliently reinforce the misconception that Alexis was becoming a "dirty girl" (something that came across as "shallow, fake, not staying true to herself etc" in the minds of some). Also, because it was so salient it may have even cost Alexis some fans who were on the fence about her actually being a "dirty girl or not"'; it would have confirmed any lingering suspicions in this regard. And alas, she gets eliminated the following night..
So:
1. Who people like on AI depends primarily on talent, personality and looks. Not considering this dirty emphasis, there are no factors that would have been logically sufficient to lead to her elimination; general personality, looks and talent/performances did not favor at least 2 contestants who outlasted her. In fact, she had the edge in terms of talent and performances over at least 2 people who outlasted her (she was stellar top 36, great top 13, mediocre top 11, while at least two others had been mediocre to good throughout). [1] The judges considered her a contender and she was one of the contestants they would actually consider saving. Going by the judges’ comments, the same cannot be said for people like Michael, Megan, Anoop and Scott.
2.The dirty emphasis was working against her and ONLY her, not only throughout the competition but also ESPECIALLY after her performance of Jolene when it was very saliently emphasized with her prompted post-Jolene comments. So since all other factors were, together, not logically sufficient to lead to her elimination BUT there was ONLY one identifiable factor (the dirty emphasis) that DID work against her and ONLY her (and to the most extent after her performance of Jolene) then because she WAS eliminated, the dirty emphasis was the most likely necessary cause Alexis' elimination. (if not for that stigma associated with the dirty emphasis, Alexis would likely have lasted longer)
3.Now even if you want to be cynical and say that Alexis was "no better than Mike or Scott or Megan" this theory is STILL valid and sound because then we'd be placing them all on the same level and the only contestant that had something that was definitely working against them was Alexis (the dirty emphasis). Thus that dirty emphasis is the only plausible reason for elimination that night.
-------
[1] This reference below is just to provide some hard evidence that shows that, even though Alexis was arguably "mediocre" on top 11 night.... she still wasn't the clear-cut WORST singer that night...in fact many polls showed that at least two other singers were worse than her....here's one example: This thread asked that question of "who do you think should leave tomorrow"
We can all objectively listen to the performances and it would be quite innacurate to say that Alexis was vocally WORSE than Michael on top 11 night. Now regardless, even if we concede that it’s “only opinion” as to whether Alexis wasn’t the worst or not… we then have to agree that it is DEBATABLE whether Alexis sang the worst that night (definitely not clear-cut)… BUT it is pretty clear-cut that in previous weeks, she was among the better singers; top 36 was stellar, top 13 was great. She received some great comments from the judges, she didn’t hit the bottom three, the judges (and many others) considered her to be a contender, and she was also one of the people they’d consider saving. So overall, at the very least, the two points cancel each other out and she should not have been considered as the worst singer up to the top 11 night… (likely she had the slight edge because of her pervious performances)... and based on that my third premise above still stands.
