Top 20 Results
by The AI Insider
Within one hour, the Top 20 were going to become the Top 16. About 27 million votes would determine which four contestants were leaving. Was that Ace Young or an Ace Young look-a-like in the audience? You know, he just became a part of "Hair," but I digress.
Simon said that when he watched the show back last night, he realized he got it a little wrong. Oh good! I love when he apologizes for being too harsh to the contestants! But this wasn't one of those moments. Simon said that there was someone who was so awful he had to turn the TV off, but thankfully he didn't call out which girl it was.
The Top 20 took the stage with an energetic performance of the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling." Ironically they were singing "I gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night," but the night ended with four people going home and tears running down 20 faces.
"Dim the lights, here we go" and here come my nerves! Ryan revealed that Tim Urban was safe, and that Todrick Hall would need to continue standing, whatever that means! Michael Lynche was safe, which means his wife and baby are hopping on a plane. Casey was safe, and Todrick was still standing. It came down to him and John Park. John received the fewest votes and was going home. He sang "Gravity" and told America that Shania was the highlight of his experience. On the bright side, Purple Haze has their leader back.
When we came back from the commercial, John Park was already an audience member. Aww, that's kind of sad! Ryan said that Lee Dewyze, Aaron Kelly, and Alex Lambert were safe. The final boy going home was either Jermaine Sellers or Andrew Garcia, and it ended up being Jermaine who was leaving. Jermaine's advice to America was, "Everybody gotta go out and get a onesie." Note taken. I hope they make the ones with the slip grips on the bottom of the feet for adults, that way I won't have to wear shoes. Is he wearing wrist braces or fashion accessories? I'm so not with it, although I am dressed almost identically to Didi Benami tonight. Jermaine sang "What's Going On" and seemed relaxed and at peace.
Season 8's second runner-up, Danny Gokey, took the stage to sing his hit single "My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me." Danny released his debut album, "My Best Days," on Tuesday. He was wearing new glasses and was very talkative with Ryan about his road from Idol to his country label.
When it was time to find out which two girls were leaving, Ryan told Lilly Scott, Paige Miles, and Katie Stevens that they were safe. The girl going home would either be Didi Benami or Michelle Delamor, two ladies who took risks with song choice the previous night. Ultimately, it was Michelle that was leaving the show. She sang her Creed song as Jermaine and John swayed along in the audience.
The last batch of results had Katelyn Epperly, Crystal Bowersox, and Siobhan Magnus taking a seat in the safety zone. It was down to the two girls who love hair accessories: Haeley Vaughn and Lacey Brown. Simon said it's fairly obvious who would be leaving, but it's not fairly obvious to me because I never know how America is going to vote! We never found out if the person sent home was the obvious one, but Haeley was sent packing. After some playful banter between Ryan and stage manager Debbie, the clips package for John Park, Jermaine Sellers, Michelle Delamor, and Haeley Vaughn rolled, which made everyone cry. Then, with tears rolling down her face and a lump in her throat, Haeley had to take the microphone and sing "The Climb." At the end of the performance everyone huddled together for a group hug, and I couldn't find a dry eye! This must be a tight-knit group. Katie seemed especially devastated, probably because she lost a classmate.
Next week is a big week -- the Top 16 become the Top 12 finalists. Who will make it to the big stage?
